East Meets West:
Yoga in the Medicine Wheel is a yoga workshop that includes teachings from the Native American Medicine Wheel. Enliven your yoga practice through an understanding of your place in the natural world. Standing at the Center, we are surrounded by the powers of the cardinal directions (East, South, West and North), Father Sky and Mother Earth.
You will be introduced to the power of myth and the power of metaphor in your practice of yoga as we explore the spirit animals represented by each direction.
The East Meets West workshop is a three hour workshop divided in two parts: |
PART I:
The first half of the workshop is a learning circle with the participants gathered in a circle on the floor around a buffalo robe.

PART II
The Second half of the workshop is a yoga practice that incorporates the teachings that were presented in the first segment of the workshop, acknowledging and honoring the seven directions. Native American flute music, drumming and chanting enhance this yoga practice.
This workshop is set up so it can be offered eight different times at the same studio. Each workshop is uniquely different from the one before. The first segment is an introduction to the seven directions and their teachings. Each of the remaining seven workshops will focus on one of the specific directions and its significance and meaning.
